12th July 2002 (Fri day) : Few Announcements

  • There will NOT be special office hrs. on Tues day (16th July) as the instructor is busy.
  • In case of any question regarding the Test4, students are supposed to get them clarified on Mon day(15th July) during lecture hrs or office hrs.
  • Test4 is on 17th July (Wed day).
  • Test4 grades will be online by 18th July (Thus day).
  • There will be a special office hrs on 19th July (Fri day, 2:00-3:00pm) to address any quaries about Test4 grades.
  • After 3:00pm Fri day (19th July), no more questions regarding grading will be entertained.
  • By Fri day (19th July) final letter grades will be posted on web.

  • Graded Test2 returned to the students. Students are requested to contact the instructor within 1 week from today if they have any question regarding grading.

  • We discussed the substitution method of solving recurrence and Chapter 10 today.

    10th June 2002 (Mon day) : Today we discussed : Soln. for HW5, Test2 syllabus, Modified Master's Method and Solving Recurrence by iterative method.


    9th June 2002 (Sun day) :

  • Test2 syllabus is on the web.
  • The intructor will not have office hrs. on Mon day in order to supervise the Test1 make up.
  • The instructor's Wednes day office hours will be preponed to Tuesday to help students for Test2 prepartion.

    Tues day office hrs : 2:00-3:30pm.

  • 5th June 2002 (Wednes day) : HW4 solution discussed and HW5 assigned. Students are advised not to attempt to solve last two problems of HW5 since we could not cover the required materials. We are now discussing Recurrence. We are done with the "masters method".


    3rd June 2002 (Mon day) : Test1 and HW3 solutions discussed in detail and HW4 assigned.

    For the students who missed the Test1, pls. provide the instructor well documented proof for missing the test to qualify to write the makeup.

    22nd May 2002 (Wed day) : Todays lecture includes : (1) HW2 solution, (2) HW3 assignment, (3) Test1 Syllabus, (4) Growth of functions (theta,O,Omega), (5) 3 Theorems based on growth of functions, (6) Testing dominance (o, little omega), (7) Transitivity, Reflexivity and Symmetric properties of theta, O and Omega and (8) Techniques for bounding summations.

    20th May 2002 (Mon day) : The followings were done in the class today : (1) HW1 solutions discussed, (2) HW2 assigned, (3) Brief view of what we have learnt so far was given, (4) Exact anylsis of an algorithm was done, (5) Asymptotic notation briefly introduced.


    16th May 2002 (Thu day) : There is a small change in instructor's office hours. The new office hours : MW 2:00-3:30pm.


    15th May 2002 : Followings were covered today : (1) Mathematical Induction and (2) Set Theory. HW1 was assigned.


    12th May 2002 : Followings were discussed : (1) Course Policy, (2) Course syllabus, (3)Test Dates and (4) Brief introduction to some mathemetical concepts.
